A study on data fusion techniques for visual modules

The fusion of data provided by different sources of knowledge produces sensor systems showing higher robustness, signal to noise ratio, and adaptability. In the context of machine vision, a system can be designed as a group of indipendent visual modules acting as individual knowledge sources. An integration scheme is then needed to obtain a fused output. This text is a tutorial intended as an introduction for students and researchers to the thematics of data fusion for machine vision. It summarises in a few pages the basic topics in data fusion and makes a short survey, far from being exhaustive, on the ongoing research
